Sought-after F17 structural timber back in stock - ASH blog thumnail

Gippslanders, we have exciting news. ASH’s sought-after Australian Oak F17 structural timber is back in stock and available direct from the mill at the ASH Retail Centre.

Thanks to a commitment in innovation and sustainability, ASH has invested in advanced processing methods to maximise every hardwood log. The result is new capacity of one of Australia’s most trusted and versatile building materials.

Australian Oak is ASH’s brand of Tasmanian Oak.

F17 Structural Timber

Timber previously destined for export or reduced to wood chips is now being converted into beautiful, long-lasting and higher value Tasmanian Oak products, including structural timber in our SUPASPAN range.

There are many reasons SUPASPAN is the best choice for your structural timber needs:

  • Beautiful appearance, allowing members to be exposed.
  • Longer, straighter spans (particularly when compared to softwoods), requiring fewer stumps and smaller sections in joists, bearers and studs.
  • Less components means less time and resources required on site.
  • Higher strength in smaller dimensions for multi-residential apartments when used as studs.
  • High load-bearing with smaller sections means less space is taken up by load bearing timber.
  • Better holding ability for floors and decks.
  • Fire rated to BAL-19.
  • Third-party audited for quality and strength.
  • Australian grown and manufactured.

Whilst there are many imported structural products on the market, they are often designed to be “fit for purpose” and typically made from softwoods that have a fraction of the nail retention, compression and beauty of SUPASPAN. A major benefit of SUPASPAN is its architectural finish, allowing members to be exposed to showcase the natural characteristics of timber.

Classic Grade

This renewed capacity also sees the introduction of new products like Australian Oak Classic Grade hardwood. Classic Grade offers builders, manufacturers and renovators an affordable way to bring natural warmth, character and sustainability to their projects, without compromising on quality.

Classic Grade Australian Oak and IronAsh celebrate the natural characteristics of timber such such as knots, veins, gum pockets, grain variation, surface checks, and pinholes. Unlike select or standard grade which prioritise uniformity, embracing variation through Classic Grade is a smart way to make the most of every log processed, reducing waste, supporting local manufacturing and extending the lifecycle of valuable fibre.

With designers and consumers increasingly shifting away from perfectly uniform timber finishes in favour of one that showcases individuality, Classic Grade provides the ideal solution.
