Project / Completed 2024
For owner and designer, Adam Johnson, the initial concept was to design and build a residential point of difference in the relaxing beachside town, as well as visually enhancing the landscape. To achieve this, Johnson incorporated two Australian Sustainable Hardwood products which feature prominently through the house.
Externally, IronAsh makes a bold statement with its front door, character-filled cladding and batten screening along the side gate. Its durability, enhanced by a deep-penetrating H3 water-based treatment to protect against decay and insects, ensures resilience against the harsh coastal conditions while maintaining a natural appearance. The treatment minimally affects the timber’s appearance, allowing for easy staining or painting to suit any design preference.
Once inside the home, the same warmth and character is carried through the home with the use of Australian Oak lining on the ceiling and walls, visually striking exposed structural beams and kitchen counter face. Australian Oak is ASH’s brand of Tasmania Oak renowned for its excellent staining qualities, workability and strength. Quarter sawn to enhance stability and cut perfectly straight for a superior finish.
Together, Australian Oak and IronAsh provide unbeatable durability and versatility to meet the demands of both internal and external environments. Resulting in a charming and cohesive home with a refined aesthetic, deserved of being shortlisted for the 2024 Houses Awards.
