IronOak and Glacial Oak elevate Denman Ave townhouses

Driven by a desire to create a sense of stillness and serenity, Denman Avenue is a sophisticated residential development that successfully balances contemporary design, with a strong connection to nature.

Nestled amongst the treetops of Glen Iris, these two refined townhouses are the latest design-and-build project from husband-and-wife team Nala Ryan of Nala Design and Joel Ryan of Orbis Constructions.

Working alongside Fabrizio Peda or Archtistic Building Design and landscape artist Brett Robinson of ACRE Studio, the close-knit team has delivered two homes that seamlessly integrate architecture, materiality and landscape.

A defining feature across both family homes is the extensive and considered use of IronOak and Glacial Oak. Hardwood selected for their durability and natural character, these timbers introduce texture, warmth and measured expression.

The thoughtful use of solid hardwood reinforces a sense of cohesion between interior and exterior while enhancing the homes’ connection to nature.

Internally, Glacial Oak has been crafted into solid hardwood staircases and handrails, bespoke doorframes and custom detailed joinery, including statement door handles and sculptural island benchtop elements.

These hand-crafted details elevate functional everyday spaces into design moments, reflecting the project’s emphasis on craftmanship.

Externally, IronOak cladding and batten screening form a striking architectural envelope providing privacy while allowing filtered light. IronOak lines the ceiling of the cosy outdoor entertaining space and also as feature ceiling lining in the dramatic lofted main void.
