“Glacial Oak was chosen due to the consistency in colour, durability and softness it added to overall aesthetical outcome.”

Just outside of Perth you’ll find Purdie House, a contemporary home that effortlessly combines the contrasting personalities of its owners and may be the best illustration yet of the limitless possibilities and appeal of Glacial Oak.

Glacial Oak makes an appearance in a number of applications throughout the dwelling with an ease and flow which has historically made Victorian hardwoods so desirable. Designers, manufacturers and clients alike are being drawn to ASH’s American Oak – Glacial Oak – because it quite simply excels in consistency, durability and finish.

Darklight Designs were tasked with designing Purdie House with a desire to create a family home with meaning and purpose that reflected the upbringings of its inhabitants. With family a core driver, Darklight Designs focussed on open plan living areas that connects with the outside rear spaces whilst overcoming the challenges with a unique shaped parcel of land.

Immediately upon arrival, a stunning custom-built front door and frame in Glacial Oak sets the scene for what lies beyond. The front façade of the home takes on a bold shape with dark metal claddings and a concrete ground floor cube, so a timber front door provides a wonderfully soft and warm contrast that draws visitors in.

It (Glacial Oak) worked well with a more contemporary style and provided a warmth to the cold colour tones of burnished concrete floors and strong darker highlights.”

“Purdie House is now the envy of all who are fortunate to venture within.”

A multi-level home, Glacial Oak connects each level in the form of stunning staircases and handrails. Timber flooring to the landing and upper floor and foyer ceiling wrap was also completed with Glacial Oak, maintaining a cohesive aesthetic as you move between spaces.

Glacial Oak battens complete a feature screen in the ensuite and lining boards create a timber panelled wall with secret door leading to the basement.

Darklight Designs explains the reason for selecting Glacial Oak was “due to the consistency in colour, durability and softness it added to overall aesthetical outcome. It worked well with a more contemporary style and provided a warmth to the cold colour tones of burnished concrete floors and strong darker highlights.”
