Project
Sustainability is fast becoming a requirement for home owners. First and foremost, the focus is on the environmental benefits and how both sustainability and design intertwine seamlessly. The Ballantyne Street home is a fine example of a common brief – to create a healthy forever home.
Foomann Architects were up to the task of constructing a space that was ‘approached in context; to be no bigger than required and enduring’. This Melbourne based architectural firm are devoted to designing and delivering beautifully simple, sensitive spaces. Foomann Architects was formed in 2008 by directors Jo Foong and Jamie Sormann. The team works on a broad range of projects in residential, hospitality, interior, retail and office design.
The theme of this natural home was connection – to encompass planning, detail and environmental impact. The team at Foomann Architects further explained “exposed Victorian Ash timber columns and beams form the structure, unifying decorative element and planning device. The frames are integrated with joinery and relate to the furniture layout”.
The beams were supplied by ASH glulam partners, VicBeam. VicBeam specialise in producing mass timber beams using our SUPA17 Victorian ash, among other timbers. GoodWood Victorian ash isa sustainable Australian hardwood that is known for its incredible strength, durability and stability – the perfect material for timber beams.
Keep an eye out fora new webpage set to launch later this year -it’ll have a plethora of glulam related information! For the time being, visit our structural timber webpage to see how mass timber beams will fit perfectly in your next project or take a look at our inspirational gallery to view other fantastic glulam projects.
