The Space

A suburban family home that explores the clever use of GoodWood Victorian ash to create a seamless connection between inside and out.

Bent Architecture

“GoodWood Victorian Ash was chosen for its durability, consistency of finish and its ability to marry in with the interior finishes proposed for the project.”

Built around a 1960’s Victorian home, Bent Annexe transforms a suburban dwelling into a place of serenity and escape. The new addition encases the existing build, much like an annexe, with large timber windows connecting the home with the outdoors, filling the space with daylight and cool breezes. The original heavy, mid-century design incorporates modern elements like natural textures and an open, light-filled living area to suit the lifestyle of a young family of four and their two adorable dachshunds.

The design was conceptualised by Bent Architecture, a Melbourne based architectural practice that values the creation of environmentally and socially sustainable spaces. The practice has established itself as leaders in a multitude of design areas and exhibits an impressive repertoire of educational, commercial, community and housing projects.

The Bent Annexe was constructed using a selection of blonde timbers which include custom GoodWood Victorian ash windows and doors carefully handmade by Aspect Windows. The large windows create an illusion of a bigger space, connecting the home with the lush garden and using passive design to minimise the need for heating and cooling.

GoodWood Victorian ash is the ultimate Australian timber for windows and doors. Our timber paired with double glazing results in highly thermal efficient windows, creating a comfortable internal climate all year round and minimising operational costs. Sustainably sourced and manufactured in Victoria, GoodWood is a popular choice for being naturally hard-wearing, strong, energy efficient and visually stunning.
