In the case of this 1930’s inner-city home, bigger is not necessarily better. This magnificent brick structure combined the existing building with a new extension to create a large living space for a modern family lifestyle.

The Coronet house was designed by architectural firm Jos Tan Architects.J os Tan specialise in small to medium scale projects, balancing three key principles; simplicity, quality and efficiency. Principal and founder Jos Tan explains “successful projects require good relationships, mutual respect and honest and reasonable dealings between the people involved”.

Many options were deliberated for this renovation, including demolishing the rear of the building to make way for a new addition- which was soon abandoned when it was apparent the budget would fall short. The decision to keep the existing brick home and pop out a small extension to the side meant maximizing efficiency and kept the physical connection between the two structures.

Included in the extension were a number of timber elements to compliment the red brick. The bifold door and tilt-turn GoodWood Victorian ash windows were supplied by premium manufacturers Binq Windows. These windows were stained to match the darker palate and act as an energy efficient addition to this green home. To continue the flow to design, the kitchen counter was made from our AlpineOak bench tops. Often homes will feature the same timber throughout to create a balanced and harmonious space. GoodWood Victorian ash is a market favourite for continuous design because it is high in quality due to our ultrasound internal scanner, is sawn dead straight and is consistent in colour.
