WOOD MARSH
“the design Cape Schanck Resort Redevelopment has been directly affected by the extraordinary coastal context in which it is sited and specifically the land on which it was built. The soft, rolling dune-like quality of the topography calls for an architecture that is fluid and sculptural”
The extremely experienced Wood Marsh team were assigned the task of designing the newest location of the RACV resorts. Woods Marsh ‘is renowned for their clarity of vision and versatility, with art galleries, wineries and private homes as deftly executed as extensive urban infrastructure the firm has created in and around Melbourne, where it is based’.
Positioned to face Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait, the materials used were chosen specifically for their ability to age gracefully overtime. The curved building reflects the fluidity and lightness that the landscape represents.
After the success of Sculptform’s products in the RACV Torquay project, it was an obvious choice to use them again for the subsequent RACV project. Their click-on timber batten system was used throughout the resort for the ceiling linings in the lobby and dining areas.
Internally, the main areas were completed with a rich and robust palette. The use of dark tones, stained timbers and marble created a cosy, warm atmosphere that clearly depicts the coastal setting.
GoodWood Victorian ash was the timber of choice for this system, being strong, straight and stable. The battens were 32x32mm and coated using a custom tint polyurethane.
GoodWood adds what other materials can’t – a connection to nature, warmth to a room and as timber is the most sustainable building material, it is the best possible option for sustainable design. Find out more about this versatile product here.
