Large-scale commercial projects including Galkangu – Bendigo Arts Hub, Westfield Knox and Gippsland Performing Arts Centre have been nominated in addition to unique and sustainable architectural residential projects. Each proudly featuring Australian Sustainable Hardwoods timber and seven specifically featuring MASSLAM.
The Gippsland Performing Arts Centre is a world class venue in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley. Creating an environment for local artists, businesses and creators to thrive, GPAC combines modern facilities with a truly inspired design. Designed by Jackson Architecture in association with Katsieris Origami, GPAC’s leading attribute is the MASSLAM trees standing 8.5m tall in the foyer. To complement the trees, the two storey open space is dotted with timber components, floor to ceiling windows and a red carpet, representative of theatres across the globe. Photo by DJWTV.
Nestled in the picturesque countryside of regional Victoria, Off Grid House encapsulates everything there is to know about about designing with local timber. At an impressive 349sqm, the structure represents volume and wonderment, typical of a church or civic meeting place.
Constructed by Bushblend Homes and designed by the Australian studio Archier, at first glance, you are drawn to the mass timber (MASSLAM) gables, drawing the eyes to the origami roofline. Photo by Thurston Empson.
A major redevelopment of the Sutherland Shire’s existing arts and cultural centre sees the foyer showcase spectacular 11m tall MASSLAM columns, long spanning beams and matching joinery. The Pavilion Performing Arts Centre is a new home of performing arts, previously known as the Sutherland Entertainment Centre, and was a reimagination of a partnership between CHROFI and NBRS.
The structure pays homage to its heritage roots by incorporating a grid-like design comprised of mass timber, intentionally chosen to replicate the geometry and shape of the existing masonry building. Photo by Alexander Mayes Photography.
