“The challenge lay with conceptualising the spaces in a way that would sit comfortably within the context and with the very familiar, yet often underestimated and poorly approached suburban typology.”
Located in the Melbourne suburb of Doncaster, Belle is a contemporary family residence built around a late 1970’s brick veneer home. The refreshing design filled with crisp white walls along with an abundance of natural light creates the ideal place for its inhabitants to rest and restore.
The space was conceptualised by Inbetween Architecture, a Melbourne-based studio that specialises in residential projects including renovations, extensions, refurbishments and new builds. The team pride themselves on understanding different family needs and dynamics throughout various life stages to create homes that perfectly fit each client.
The brief explores a ‘connection between indoor and outdoor, for dining and entertaining, that could be used all year round’, making the covered al fresco area an integral part of the design. A brick paved platform as well as timber windows and doors wrap themselves around the home, building the relationship between the two spaces through multiple entry points.
