The Space

Built amongst the urban Fitzroy suburb is this simple and uncomplicated family home.

“the efficient plan offers great amenity and seclusion to all rooms, and yet this house contributes so much to the streetscape”

Weathered timber, blank brickwork and a plethora of modest materials make this space so unique in today’s world of modern and contemporary design.

Designed to be built by owner builder Ashley Rowan, Kennedy Nolan Architects were assigned the brief of creating a four bedroom home for a growing family. Kennedy Nolan Architects are a developed design practice based in Melbourne, ‘the practice is dedicated to the production of architecture that is highly responsive to its context and seeks to form a strong relationship with landscape’. Kennedy Nolan have worked on a number of large scale multi-residential, mixed-use, retail and education projects.

The Liverpool house is unpretentious and natural, it includes a display of robust materials for the inner-city setting. Greenery and timber is used throughout which adds an organic atmosphere. Goodwood Victorian ash veneers were used for the kitchen and bathroom joinery for its light colour, consistent grain and adaptability to a design.

“Simple construction and robust, honest materials ensure the emphasis is on this project’s strong architectural form”

How do you know that a material is consistently reliable? When architects, designers, builders and specifiers continuously choose to use it across their entire portfolio. Goodwood Victorian ash veneers have been a favourite of Kennedy Nolan Architect’s for some time now, having used it for the entire kitchen in their Park Lane house. Take a look at Park Lane here.

Goodwood Victorian ash is the market’s best appearance grade timbers – and for a good reason. Goodwood is not only easy to work, cut, stain and build with, it also is straight line edged after drying, has minimal pink colouring, is internally scanned for defects and much more.
