Iron Ash Cladding in SSD Studio’s Shifted House

/ By SSD Studio

The Space

You are looking at one of Bondi’s latest additions which was built to accommodate two families together or independently as a beachside sanctuary. The semi-detached, post war house incorporates a balanced design of striking white walls and warm timber.

“The home is light and airy, capable of accommodating several families. The material palette is intentionally simple to reinforce the feeling of an urban sanctuary with natural materials specifically for warmth and character”

Designers SSD Studio were responsible for making this build come to life. SSD Studio are a ‘multidisciplinary design firm delivering a broad range of creative projects. The practice has extensive professional experience in both small and large scale residential and mixed-use projects in sensitive heritage contexts, urban and suburban environments’.

The brief was to configure the home to welcome light and breezes to the centre of the home for passive cooling in summer.

Timber was used throughout the space to promote the sustainable principles of the brief. Specifically, Iron ASH cladding was used to act as gateway between inside and out.

What is Iron ASH? The combination of water based additives deep into the core of Goodwood Victorian ash, perfect for external use. Treated to H3 classification, IRON ASH can be used in partnership with Goodwood to create a continuous flow of design. Learn more about Iron ASH here.

“Not only does IRON ASH look amazing, the carpenters loved working with it”
