IronAsh fins in South Melbourne

/ By ME Architects

Drawing on common interests in life, the clients of South Melbourne House and Michael Ellis (ME Architects) have developed a facade to an otherwise typical three bedroom residence in the inner city suburb of Melbourne. The CNC cut facade draws on the concept of movement both as an individual and as a group. The intention is to create the profile of a swimming fish embodying this principle and reference the owner and architects mutual love of its fresh raw consumption.

In search of a solution to produce these fins where the specification required long, wide, straight and durable beams (a task that would typically cost a fortune) Michael Ellis and IronAsh crossed paths in what would transpire into spectacular results.

The supply, cutting and WOCA coating were all orchestrated by Mathews Timber and the finished product delighted ME Architects on many fronts. Michael even commented that “the facade was created and achieved for a very modest supply sum of under $4,000” despite it looking a million bucks!
